“Music is always profoundly human; there can be no music without people” – said Wolfgang Rihm, who died on 27 July 2024 at the age of 72. He is the most frequently-performed contemporary German composer, not least because of his commitment to subjective, direct expression. Wolfgang Rihm was to accompany the Berliner Philharmoniker through the 2024/25 season as Composer in Residence. The planned chamber music evenings and orchestral concerts will now commemorate a great composer with a selection from his multifaceted oeuvre.
