Biography

The Philharmonische Camerata Berlin, one of the two chamber orchestra ensembles of the Berliner Philharmoniker, was founded in 2001. Under the direction of Luiz Coelho (and the auspices of the “founding fathers” Romano Tommasini and Wolfgang Talirz) young members of the Berliner Philharmoniker (among them 1st prizes of ARD Munich) have gathered with the ambition to meet the highest artistic standards, combining the proverbial richness of sound of the Berliner Philharmoniker with exquisite chamber music subtlety.  the members of the Berlin Philharmonic String Quintet moulding the nucleus of the ensemble.

With chamber music being the main focus of its members, the Camerata is also performing as string sextet and octet, for example at the Philharmonie Berlin, the Luzern Festspielhausand at Paris Salle Gaveau. The masterpieces of Mendelssohn, Brahms and Schoenberg are the main features. In this spirit of excellence, the Camerata has been collaborating with partners like Micha Maisky, Tatjana Vassiljeva (cello), Albrecht Mayer (oboe), Wenzel Fuchs and Paul Meyer (clarinet) and Gabor Tarkövi (trumpet).
