Biography
In music a “capriccio” is a piece that is free and playful in character, with only slight, if any, orientation to traditional musical forms. This freedom is also reflected in the freely variable forces of the Berlin Philharmonic Capriccio.
Initiated in 2002 by Alessandro Cappone, the ensemble grew out of the idea of playing chamber music with Philharmonic colleagues in the most diverse formations. Its founding tour took the Philharmonic Capriccio through all of Italy with Alessandro Carbone, principal clarinet of Rome’s Santa Cecilia Orchestra. Concerts have followed since then in Italy, Austria (including the Salzburg Easter Festival), Switzerland and Berlin. The Philharmonic Capriccio’s repertoire ranges from duets to string sextets, as well as compositions for mixed forces with strings, winds and piano.
