Biography

Barbara Kehrig began her career as an orchestral musician in 2006 as second bassoonist and contra bassoonist with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. From 2016, she played as principal contrabassoonist with a commitment to 2nd/3rd/4th bassoon in the Konzerthausorchester Berlin before joining the Berliner Philharmoniker in December 2022. Born in Freiburg, she studied with Alfred Rinderspacher at the Heidelberg-Mannheim University of Music, with Klaus Thunemann at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin and with Volker Tessmann at the Lübeck University of Music. 

She gained her first orchestral experience with the National Youth Orchestra, the State Youth Orchestra and the Symphonic Youth Wind Orchestra as well as being principal bassoonist with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and having worked as a trainee with the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden/Freiburg. From 1999 to 2001, Barbara Kehrig was a member of the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, where she was taught by Daniele Damiano, Stefan Schweigert (bassoon) and Marion Reinhardt (contrabassoon).
