Biography
Janusz Widzyk began playing the double bass since the age of 13. He studied at the Academy of Music and the European Mozart Academy in Krakow, moving in 1996 to the Academy of Music in Cologne. In 1998, he won first prize at the International Music Competition in Geneva.
In 1997, the Beethovenhalle Orchestra in Bonn engaged him as principal double bass, and three years later Janusz Widzyk took up the same position with the NDR Symphony Orchestra (now the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra). He has been a member of the double bass section of the Berliner Philharmoniker since 2001. He also performs as a soloist and chamber musician. Janusz Widzyk, who was a member of the Philharmonic Camerata Berlin and the Philharmonic String Quintet for many years and has performed with David Riniker as the Philharmonia Duo since 2018, teaches at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin and at the University of the Arts in Szczecin, Poland. Janusz Widzyk completed his doctorate at the Krakow University of Music in 2019.
