Biography
Kyoungmin Park began playing the violin when she was six. But when she first heard a viola at the age of 11, she felt drawn to its dark sound, and decided to change to the deeper instrument. In 2003, the South Korean went to study in Vienna. In 2008, she moved to Berlin, where she studied at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler under Walter Küssner, and from 2010 under Tabea Zimmermann, graduating with a concert diploma. She also attended masterclasses with Wilfried Strehle, the former principal viola of the Berliner Philharmoniker, who introduced her to the orchestra’s sound ideal.
A multiple winner of national and international competitions, she has appeared as a soloist with the Philharmonie Baden-Baden, the Kammerakademie Potsdam, the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, the Korean Symphony Orchestra and the Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra; she has appeared as a chamber musician at renowned European and Korean festivals. Kyoungmin Park plays on a viola by Patrick Robin, Angers 2012, owned by the German Foundation for Musical Life. In her free time, she enjoys jogging and swimming.
