Biography

Simon Roturier comes from Concarneau, a small seaside town in Brittany. He started playing the violin at the age of seven and decided to make music his profession at the age of 14, enrolling at the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique, where he studied with Boris Garlitsky and Itamar Golan. After graduating, he continued his studies with Vladimir Nemtanu at the Lyon Conservatoire and attended masterclasses with Ulf Hölscher, David Grimal and Ida Händel.

In addition to other competitions, he won the audience prize at the David Oistrakh Competition in 2004. In 2006 he was a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra conducted by Claudio Abbado, and from 2007 to 2009 he was a scholarship holder of the Karajan Akademie of the Berliner Philharmoniker. He then studied with Antje Weithaas at the Hanns Eisler School of Music and with the Artemis Quartet at the Berlin University of the Arts. Simon Roturier is the leader of the Noga Quartet, which was founded in 2009.
