For the first time, the Berliner Philharmoniker will travel to South Korea and Japan with chief conductor Kirill Petrenko. The orchestra will visit the cities of Seoul, Takamatsu, Nagoya, Himeji, Osaka, Kawasaki and Tokyo. At the end of the tour, there will be a special event: members of the orchestra will play a concert with amateur musicians from Japan. Kirill Petrenko conducts.
Behind the music: the taiko master
Gymnastics, cardiovascular exercises and marathon training - to control the Japanese taiko, the drummers have to be extremely fit. Timpanists Wieland Welzel and Vincent Vogel visited taiko master Eitetsu Hayashi during our tour of Asia and learnt a few tricks from him.
