The Berliner Philharmoniker’s programme for the tour of Asia includes pieces by several German-Austrian composers: Richard Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben, Max Reger’s Mozart Variations, symphonies by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johannes Brahms, Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 and the Three Orchestral Pieces by Alban Berg. This last piece is certainly the least-known work on the programme.
In this video with flautist Jelka Weber, chief conductor Kirill Petrenko introduces the work and explains what makes this modern music so sensitive and touching. They also give unique insights into the rehearsal process.
