Chief conductor Kirill Petrenko and the Berliner Philharmoniker will bring a work by Sergei Rachmaninoff with them on their US tour. His tone poem The Isle of the Dead was inspired by Alfred Böcklin’s symbolist painting of the same name – or more precisely, by a black and white copy. In our video format “Upbeat”, we present the work in more detail. You will gain insights through rehearsals with Kirill Petrenko, while violist Julia Gartemann offers clues for interpreting this enigmatic piece.
