Finding coherence in the complex – that is the Simply Quartet's recipe for success. After winning several international competitions, including the Carl Nielsen Competition in Copenhagen and the Joseph Haydn Chamber Music Competition in Vienna, the young ensemble is one of the rising stars of the quartet scene. For their debut in our quartet series, the four musicians will perform classics of the genre such as Mozart's “Hunting Quartet” and Grieg's Opus 27, as well as Wynton Marsalis’ jazzy Creole Contradanzas and American composer Rebecca Clarke’s thought-provoking Poem.

Series T: Quartet
The Simply Quartet combines musical precision with a spirit of discovery. With a love for detail and an open ear for new repertoire, it has established itself among the leading international string quartets. Fidelity to the work, meticulous study of the score, passionate enthusiasm, and technical brilliance form the foundation of its success. The quartet’s repertoire spans from early Classical works to compositions by contemporary composers. Founded in Shanghai, the ensemble’s current formation came together during their studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where the musicians from China, Norway, and Austria received crucial artistic impulses from Johannes Meissl, violinist of the Artis Quartet. Other important mentors included Jensen Horn-Sin Lam, Hatto Beyerle and Patrick Jüdt (European Chamber Music Academy), as well as Günter Pichler and Gerhard Schulz (Alban Berg Quartet).
Four first prizes at major chamber music competitions – including the Carl Nielsen International Chamber Music Competition 2019 and the Quatuor à Bordeaux competition 2019 – paved the way for a successful international career. In 2021, the Simply Quartet was selected for the prestigious “Rising Stars” programme of the European Concert Hall Organisation. Today, the ensemble performs in the great concert halls of Europe. Its name is inspired by Chinese philosophy – by the idea of a harmonious whole, where opposites do not exclude but rather enrich one another. “For us, complexity and simplicity belong together,” says the quartet – a credo that resonates in every note they play.
