For the twelfth season of Jazz at Berlin Philharmonic, curator Siggi Loch has put together concerts based on a series of different themes. The series kicks off with an Italian Night, featuring pianist Stefano Bollani leading an all-Italian ensemble with clarinetist Gabriele Mirabassi at the helm. Next up is World Jazz: Swedish pianist Joel Lyssarides joins forces with George Prokopiou on the Greek bouzouki, Moroccan Gimbri player Majid Bekkas, American drummer Hamid Drake, and the exceptional French-Vietnamese guitarist Nguyên Lê.
The series kicks off in early December, when three stars of European jazz take the stage – pianists Michael Wollny, Iiro Rantala, and Leszek Możdżer. Spring of 2025 brings refined and polished jazz with the trio of Swiss vocalist Lucia Cadotsch, the Julia Hülsmann Quartet, and the ebullient Kurt Rosenwinkel Trio. The season finale in the Great Hall pays tribute to the end of WWII 80 years ago under the title Europeana – a jazz invocation of the European ideal. Joining the NDR Bigband under Geir Lysne are the Vision String Quartet along with soloists Céline Bonacina, Marius Neset, and Camille Bertault.
