For four Sunday mornings, the Berlin Philharmonie will turn its focus entirely to the “queen of instruments”. Richard Gowers, one of the most intriguing organists of our time, launches the series. The 29-year-old Londoner will be joined by the brass players of the Berliner Philharmoniker; together, they present a richly romantic programme.

The organ and the flute have much in common, since both instruments produce music using the flow of air. Thomas Ospital, organist of the Church of St. Eustache in Paris, and Emmanuel Pahud, principal flutist of the Berlin Philharmonic, come together for a programme in the French style.

Do Argentine tangos suit the organ? Absolutely, says French star organist Vincent Dubois. Together with Marie-Andrée Joerger, he creates an unconventional matinee for organ and accordion.

Zuzana Ferjenčíková, a professor in Rotterdam, dedicates the closing concert to her teacher Jean Guillou, with a programme built around his arrangements, including his powerful take on Modest Mussorgsky’s cycle “Pictures at an Exhibition”.
