In his first Bruckner interpretation with the Berliner Philharmoniker, chief conductor Kirill Petrenko leads us through the composer’s Fifth Symphony, which culminates in a monumental last movement. However, Bruckner was unable to complete the finale of his Ninth Symphony. The work, which has a special aura about it as an unfinished work, is conducted by Herbert Blomstedt in this series. Although the Philharmoniker premiered Ferruccio Busoni’s mighty Piano Concerto, it has not been performed for over 100 years. Now there is a new edition with Sakari Oramo and Kirill Gerstein. Kirill Petrenko devotes himself to Russian works and, like Klaus Mäkelä, music by the composer in residence Wolfgang Rihm. Marin Alsop will be traveling with the orchestra to Finland as well as North and South America
