The Berliner Philharmoniker present their principal clarinettist Wenzel Fuchs in the fourth album of their Soloist series. Under the direction of Alan Gilbert, he plays what is probably the most famous concerto written for his instrument: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A major.
“Doubtless like every other clarinettist, I feel very fortunate that we have this glorious concerto for our instrument,” says Wenzel Fuchs about Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto. “Its particular attraction for me is that the music — like everything of Mozart’s, in fact — is so honest.” Talking about his collaboration with “his” Berliner Philharmoniker and Alan Gilbert, he continues: “And precisely because performing this music depends so much on a refined tonal sensibility, I’m most grateful to have had the opportunity to record it with my orchestra colleagues and my friend Alan Gilbert on the rostrum. To allow oneself as a soloist to indulge in this bed of Philharmoniker sonority is an absolute luxury.”
The album will be available from 25 April 2025 as a download at berliner-philharmoniker-recordings.com and from all standard digital music providers as a digital album. A digital album with irst concertmaster Noah Bendix-Balgley, principal violist Amihai Grosz, and harpist Marie-Pierre Langlamet has already been released as part of the soloist series launched by our Berliner Philharmoniker Recordings label to mark its 10th anniversary.
