Two soloist positions have been filled in the Berliner Philharmoniker: We congratulate David Guerrier (trumpet) and Jonathon Ramsay (trombone), who have successfully passed their probationary period, and we welcome them warmly to the orchestra!
The Australian Jonathon Ramsay was a permanent member of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Munich Philharmonic before taking over the position of principal trombonist with the Berlin Philharmonic as Christhard Gössling’s successor. Born and raised in Sydney, he studied at the conservatory in his home city with Scott Kinmont. At the age of 20, he became principal trombonist with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed regularly with the symphony orchestras of Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. In 2018, the musician was awarded a scholarship to the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, where he became a student of Olaf Ott. He completed his training at the academy in 2021 and played as a guest with orchestras such as the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Staatskapelle Berlin, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg until his first permanent position.
David Guerrier, who comes from Toulon, has been playing the trumpet since the age of seven. He received his training at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon under Pierre Dutot and at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg under Hans Gansch. David Guerrier has won first prizes at several renowned competitions, including the ARD International Music Competition in Munich and the Maurice André International Trumpet Competition. He began his professional orchestral career in 2004 as principal trumpet of the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg. David Guerrier also works as a soloist and chamber musician with numerous acclaimed artists and ensembles.
